EAGLE
This petroglyph was carved on a 200 lb granite boulder about 18" wide and tall, and it currently sits just outside the Madrona stone circle on Guemes Island, hovering protectively. Petroglyphs are among the earliest forms of stone sculpture, and the eagle is one of the oldest animal spirits recognized by the indigenous people of this area. Eagles have watched over me and guided my carving efforts since I began work on the Maiden of Deception Pass story pole.
