DOVE # 25

Each rock dove I make is a little prayer for peace.

Observing the rising level of fear and hatred abroad in the world, my only possible response is to use the skills and materials and ideas I have been given to increase the inventory of positive messages, in a desperate attempt at achieving balance.

Hope for fear
Giving for taking
Love for hate
Peace for war

No one can change the course of events, or change the minds of others.

Each person can, and must, do what little things they are able to nudge the balance toward what they believe to be right. In the face of our current national tragedy, the invasion of Iraq, I choose to make sculptural representations of doves.

I have been releasing doves of different sizes from different rocks, for many years, as part of what I believe is my general obligation to life. In the last two years, I have stepped up my output, carving 12 of the 19 to date. My task is to carve 100 rock doves, and then to see how many more I can make, or if it is necessary to redefine my goal.

My hope is that some one person may be touched by each one of the doves, and either consider joining the cause of peace or work a little harder in its service, or just be reminded that we each have a right to say something.

If you are so inclined, please join in.

Make doves

Believe in doves

We can never have too many doves.   If you prefer to adopt one of mine, ½ of the purchase price will go to a charity dedicated to helping the victims of our nation’s wars.

Peace and Love,
Tracy Powell, summer solstice 2004

Update, June 2005

In the last year, our Dove Project has contributed over $3500 to charities serving the victims of war in Iraq.   Thank you.
