SIREN

This is another carving I made in 1997, of Utah oolitic limestone, which is especially appropriate for this image, because the stone was formed long ago, over many thousands of years, from the exoskeletons of millions of tiny sea creatures that fell to the bottom of a shallow sea, accumulating eventually into layers of limestone several feet thick.  The sculpture is about 15"x30"x10", and she currently resides next to a swimming pool in Santa Monica, California.  Here again, is a "shapeshifter", expressing the ancient links we all have to earlier incarnations within the great life force.  This image also has many cultural manifestations, especially in cultures that have evolved in marine locations, all around the earth.  From ancient Mediterranean societies to the indigenous peoples of the Americas, mermaids have been with us for a very long time.
